It's hard to overstate the merits of the Club of friends Elk for our city, which longtime Chairman was Jan Bielewicz. Mr. Jan take a number of initiatives, which aim was to integrate ełczan in Chicago. He organized the m.in. carnivals charitable pledge money to support ełcką community.

Among the many initiatives should be mentioned among other things the social fundraiser, which for 15 k. neonatal resuscitation equipment was purchased dollars for city hospital "Medica" or the transfer of primary school No 2 in Elk Braille reading machines-used children blind.

To a number of charitable ventures include also passing the Mazurskiemu Theatre of song and dance "Elk" costumes, lunch for hundreds of children from poor families, drugs, financial support for the children's home and family substitute, the invitation of several wards ełckie orphanage on a holiday to the USA or to help children with disabilities.
