Winter has been a good place in our region. Although the aura is charming, it creates a number of difficulties e.g. transport in the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. Ice and snow weight can also be dangerous.

Pay attention to people in need of help

Pay particular attention to the situation of the lonely, the elderly, the homeless and all those who are unable to secure their basic life needs on their own. Let us not pass indifferently next to those in need of support. If we are unable to help ourselves, let us notify the relevant services.

Control the amount of snow on the roof

It is extremely important to pay attention to the size of the snow cover and to control the amount of snow on the roofs of buildings. Additional load caused by snow can cause damage and even collapse of the structure. More snow (especially wet) at 1m2 can weigh up to several hundred kilograms. In the case of thawing, the lingering snow causes the formation of overlings and ice icicles threatening passers-by and vehicles.

Snow clearing is our shared responsibility

In order to ensure the passability of urban streets, the Municipal Services Company in Elk removes snow and icing of roadways and pedestrian routes. Remember, however, that it is not possible to immediately clear all streets and sidewalks as soon as the precipitation begins. The city is divided into zones of the order of removal of slipperiness and snow removal depending on the volume of traffic and the location of institutions important for the safety of residents. The total area for winter maintenance in Elk is about 870 thousand m2.

Let us also remember that, as owners or managers of the property, we are also responsible for removing slippery conditions and clearing the adjacent terrain.

Think before you go on the ice

We warn against entering frozen water bodies and, above all,

on the surface of Lake Ełcki. This is particularly dangerous in the event of temperature spikes

thaws.

Every year during the winter there is a tragedy on the lakes. Unfortunately, this situation happened recently on one of the lakes near Mikolajek.
