At the February session, the Ełk City Council adopted a position expressing solidarity with Ukraine and condemning the hostilities carried out by Russia.

Therefore, the Ełk councillors submitted a draft resolution concerning the termination of cooperation with the city of Ozersk in the Kaliningrad Oblast in Of the Russian Federation. The Mayor of Ełk, Tomasz Andrukiewicz, prepared draft resolution on the termination of cooperation with the Administration of the Ozersky District (equivalent to county).

In the justification for the project, the President of Ełk stressed that military operations conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine threaten the lives of millions of people and stability and peace in Europe. They also blatantly violate international law. For such actions can not be the consent of the international community.

Therefore, during today's (2 March 2022) extraordinary Of the session, the Ełk councillors adopted two resolutions concerning the termination of the existing cooperation.
