As part of the fifth edition of the Government Programme Strategic Investments were co-financed to 52 local governments in Poland. The city of Ełk as one of the two cities in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship received funding for the improvement and modernization of road infrastructure in the Subzone Ełk in the area of the Suwałki Special Economic Zone.

The amount obtained by Ełk is 28 million 175 thousand PLN. The funds will be used to modernize three roads: Silicon, Towarowa and Ciepłej. Expected the value of the investment is PLN 28 million 750 thousand, so the amount obtained is up to 98% of the cost. Own contribution is PLN 575,000.

Today (17 October) took place press conference attended by Wojciech, Member of the Polish Parliament Kossakowski, Mayor of Ełk Tomasz Andrukiewicz and Head of the Road Department Urban Edyta Nagolska. During the meeting, details of the co-financed project and the scope of work.

-Very we want entrepreneurs and investors to have better access to their companies and investment areas. Road development in north-eastern Poland is of great importance for the development of our cities. Via Baltica, Rail is being built Baltica, and as part of these investments, the road system and railway are being rebuilt. Also here, in this zone, the road system will be rebuilt, m.in in ul. The freight will be the entrance through a tunnel under the tracks. It's all going to come together just with these new investments that are currently planned – said the president of Ełk during the conference Thomas Andrukiewicz.

- In Ełk we make sure that more and more bicycle paths are created that fit in into a coherent policy of the idea of "Cycling to work". We want residents to be able to use from this alternative of commuting to work – said the head of the road department Urban

As part of the funds raised, ełk will be Upgraded:

1)      hive. Silicon (approx. 385 m) - the scope of work is m.in::

• change of geometry and structure of the roadway;
• construction of street lighting;
• construction of an asphalt pedestrian and bicycle route;
• construction of a bus bay.

2)      hive. Towarowa (approx. 1400 m), as part of the works m.in:

• reconstruction of the road;
• reconstruction of technical infrastructure, including construction of lighting;
• construction and reconstruction of parking lots;
• construction of sidewalks and bicycle path;
• construction of bus bays.

3)      Ciepła Street - scope Work:

• construction of a pedestrian and bicycle route.
