International Mother Language Day

Today
February 21 is International Mother Language Day – a holiday that
was established by UNESCO on November 17, 1999. Its purpose is to
protecting mother tongues and caring for endangered and endangered languages.
To this end, the year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment by the General Conference of UNESCO on 21 February of the International Mother Language Day.
Date commemorates the tragic event that took place in 1952 in Dhaka, which it later became the capital of independent Bangladesh. Five were killed that day students who want Bengali to be given the status of a language Official.
International Mother Language Day was not established to celebrate our language our beloved Polish language, only so that all of us – on the basis of all over the world, have become aware of the great diversity and value of mother tongues: regional, national, official and unofficial; those with a huge range and those used only by a few.
Despite progress that has been made in the world in the field of education multilingual language and understanding of its importance, especially in the early school years, 40 percent of the world's population still does not have access to education in the language they use or understand.
International Mother Language Day 2024 is an opportunity to remind the community that multilingual education enhances the learning process when The language of instruction is the first language of the student.
During two discussions will be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris multilingual education. Discussions will focus on:
1) multilingual education as a key element of high-quality learning;
2) multilingual education as a pillar of intergenerational learning.
UNESCO consistently emphasises the role of multilingual education based on the first language, also known as the mother tongue or home language, during the the annual celebration of the International Mother Language Day.

Institutions subordinate to and supervised by the Ministry of Education and Science activities aimed at promoting the Polish language among the Polish diaspora and Poles abroad.
