Suwałki Nikifor - Exhibition opening

Ełk On 14 March, the Cultural Centre invites you to the Ślad Gallery for the opening of the exhibition of Tymoteusz's works Muska, a primitivist painter called the "Nikifor of the North".

Vernissage exhibition of paintings by Tymoteusz Muska will take place on March 14 at 18:00 in Ślad Gallery of the Ełk Cultural Centre.

Timothy Musko was born on 7 February 1917 in Monastyrsk, Penza Governorate, Russia, and died on 10 August 1985 in Węgorzewie – a Polish naïve painter, nicknamed "Nikifor of the North"

In In 1920 he and his mother returned to Polish, to the village of Dubno, located south of the Bialystok. During the war, he was partially paralyzed. In 1974 he joined the "Kalina" Nursing Home in Suwałki. He began to draw his boarders and attend the art studio of the Provincial Cultural Centre.

Participated in the annual plein-air painting organized by the WDK, m.in. in Brożówka (1979), Węgorzewie (1980), Gołdap (1981) and Augustów (1982). His paintings were shown at folk art exhibitions in Kazimierz on the Vistula River. In 1981 Andrew Domański organized an exhibition of paintings by Tymoteusz Muska in the building of the University Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Muśka's works have been added to the collection of: Museum Suwałki Regional Museum, the Museum of Folk Art in Węgorzewo and numerous private collections. In 1982 Tymoteusz Muśko left Suwałki for Węgorzewo, where he died on August 10, 1985. He was buried next to his mother in the Orthodox Church. cemetery in the village of Dubno.

Primitivism (naïve art) In painting, it often resembles paintings children. It is characterized by the deformation of space and perspective, or its absence, extremely subjective point of view, simple techniques and often with a great attention to detail.

Exhibition can be seen at the Ślad Gallery until 21.04.2024.
