On 1 May 2004, Poland joined the European Union under the Treaty of signed on 16 April 2003 in Athens. Poland joined the EU together with Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.

[WATCH VIDEO] Over the past 20 years, the city of Ełk has acquired co-financing in the amount of over 514 million PLN for implementation 184 projects with a value of approx. PLN 823 million. These are m.in:

1.       Bypass The City of Ełk (construction included 5 stages)

2. Thermal modernisation of public buildings – schools and kindergartens in Ełk

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 13 million

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 8 million

3. Thermal modernization of utility buildings public - SP4, SP7, Ekoludki

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 9.8 million

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 6.6 million

4. Renovation and adaptation of a historic tenement house at 21 Armii Krajowej Street in Ełk for the Art School

·          Total value of the project: approx. PLN 6.8 million

·         Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 2.2 million

5. Underground Infrastructure Reconstruction Project sewage catchment and reconstruction of the Sewage Treatment Plant in Nowa Wieś Ełka Street, which included, m.in the reconstruction of the sanitary sewage system in the housing estate Konieczka, Północ, Centrum, Kochanowski, Bogdanowicza and Zatorze.

6. Improvement of water and wastewater management of agglomerations Ełk (comprehensive reconstruction of sewage pumping stations, sanitary sewers, wells sewage system and water main)

•        Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 35 million

7. Tourist development of the area at promenade on the lake. Ełk

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 465 thousand

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: PLN 396 thousand

8. Reconstruction of Piłsudskiego Street with parking lots, sidewalks and the construction of a bicycle path

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 1.8 million

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 1.3 million

9. Construction of a waste disposal plant together with the landfill in Siedliska near Ełk"

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 105 million

·         Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 42 million

10. Comprehensive modernization of sports and sports facilities recreational facilities at MOSiR (m.in. football field, multi-purpose sports field, square playgrounds, mini-golf, seasonal ice rink, sanitary facilities, changing rooms)

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 4.8 million

·         Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 2.8 million

11. Expansion of the Techno-Park in Ełk and equipment Buildings

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 12 million

·         Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 5 million

12. Reconstruction of the historic sports hall building at 16 Armii Krajowej Street in Ełk and giving it social functions

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 3 million

·         Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 2.1 million

13. Development of John Paul II Square with modernization of Wojska Polskiego Street in Ełk

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 3.6 million

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 1.5 million

14. Developing sustainable public transport in City of Ełk (3 stages) (The project included, m.in, the purchase of hybrid buses, implementation of an activated signaling system with traffic lights, purchase and installation of boards and implementation of a system increasing safety on the Stops

15. Construction of a promenade along the lake waterfront Ełk (3 stages)

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 8.7 million

16. Expansion of bicycle paths in Ełk by creation of a bicycle path at the Ełk Lake from Zamkowa Street

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 1.2 million

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 905 thousand

17. Renovation of a historic tenement house at ul. Małeckich 3 together with the adjacent historic Solidarity Park in Ełk

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 8.2 million

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 4.5 million

18. Reconstruction of roads connecting to the TEN-T network (DK16): Kolonia Street and Suwalska Street

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 18.8 million

·          Amount co-financing from the EU: approx. PLN 12.3 million

19. Modernisation of the ECC building and equipping it with cinema, as well as the extension of the building and landscaping (m.in. chamber music, music park)

·          Total Project value: approx. PLN 11 million
