Today (25 November) the "White ribbon". This is the largest international social campaign aimed at combating violence against women. Initiated in 1991 in Canada, the symbolises opposition to all forms of violence and calls for the commitment of men in building a world free from aggression. The "White Ribbon" campaign in Ełk is organized for the thirteenth time.

The symbol of the action is a white ribbon, worn as a a declaration of support for victims of violence and a commitment to act for the benefit of equality and respect.

The campaign is organized on the initiative of the Team Interdisciplinary City of Ełk at the Municipal Social Welfare Center in Ełk, which as part of this year's edition plans m.in:

• information and education activities in the public institutions, schools and NGOs,
• workshops and meetings on counteracting violence,
• symbolic actions of handing out white ribbons and roses,
• an information campaign in the local media.
