Information on the threat of animal diseases
Author: Mateusz Gałęski

Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship Office in Olsztyn informs on the need to report to territorially competent district doctors veterinary cases of carcasses of birds of prey and birds related to the aquatic environment (ducks, geese, swans, gulls, terns). It has is related to the information of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship Veterinarian concerning the threat of highly pathogenic avian influenza and Newcastle disease.

Avian influenza occurs seasonally (late autumn, winter, early spring), but, as in the case of Newcastle disease, the threat of occurrence of this disease is real throughout the year.

Leaving the carcasses of dead birds in the environment due to influenza or pseudo-plague carries a huge risk, because the virus that causes these diseases can retain their virulence for a long time at low temperatures and in the absence of sunlight.
