April 10 marks the 13th anniversary of the disaster Smolensk, which took place in Smolensk, on Saturday, April 10, 2010. As a result of the catastrophe, 96 people died, among them: the President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński with his wife Maria Kaczyńska.

April 13 is the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Crime Katyn, paying tribute to the Soviet victims on the 83rd anniversary of the Katyn massacre a crime that resulted in the execution of over 21,000 Poles. As part of the city's celebrations of both anniversaries, on April 13 at 6 p.m. St. Adalbert's Cathedral in Ełk will be celebrated Holy Mass in the intention of victims of the Katyn massacre and the Smolensk catastrophe. After the Holy Mass, laying flowers at the Monument to the Victims of Katyn and Smolensk at the cathedral and handing over tribute to the victims.
